We are pleased to announce that Loughborough will be organising the BUCS road race. This will be the first BUCS road cycling weekend, Loughborough will be hosting a BUCS criterium on the Saturday followed by the BUCS road race on the Sunday. We are hoping that all universities will support this weekend it should be a fantastic weekend.

The BUCS criterium, is a test event (BUCS points not available) if universities support the event BUCS will start looking into the possibility of a BUCS series for 2013. So please do try to support the event, The BUCS criterium is an E/1/2/3 race; we are also promoting a ¾ race for those who wish to race at a lower level.

Online entry is the only method of entry, you can enter the BUCS criterium via the British Cycling website. We are hoping to use the same entry system for the road race, however we are discussions with BUCS!

There are many places were you can get cheap accommodation in Loughborough, the premier inn offers a twin room for £35 per night.

Last year Loughborough promoted a Women’s road race too, however the course used for the men’s road race is deemed not suitable for the women’s road race. Therefore it is difficult for Loughborough to accommodate for this event as we are already promoting four events that weekend!

More details can be found on the event website, www.lsu-cycling.co.uk/criterium

The cycling clubs elections are approaching fast we have arranged them for Wednesday 7th March at 8pm in James France. We need new people to run for positions on the committee, if you would like to run for a position please email Alex Burrage stating which position you want to run for by Sunday 4th March.

We need every club member to support the elections – please come down.

There will be a social afterwards going to JC’s then hitting HeyEwe, there will also be a Que Jump for club members who turn up to the elections.

Club Chair

The club chair overseas the running of the club. The role needs some one who is passionate about LSCC and wants to improve the club. Your job is to role drive the club forward and hopefully bring some fresh ideas to the club. The role can be associated with a heavy work load, however if you are passionate about LSCC this won’t matter!

Contact Ryan Maclachlan for more information about this role

Club Secretary

The role of the secretary is to help with the general running of the club, and especially the committee. It is the Secretarys job to organise the meetings of the committee and the whole club, and to write the agenda and the minutes at these meetings. They are also there to help the other committee members with their roles, whatever that might need.

Contact Alex Burrage for more information about this role

Down Hill Captain

The role of being Downhill captain involves planning weekend trips to various downhill riding spots throughout the year. It can vary from a trip a month, to two in two weekends and as downhill captain you must organise lifts, time and locations yet you do not have to attend the trips. As the year progresses you’ll make great friendships with the downhill guys and organising the trips will be as simple as texting your mates. I really recommend someone who is keen to get involved with the club go for the position of downhill captain as I have thoroughly enjoyed this year and would do it again given the chance.

Contact Tom Cartigny for more information about this role

XC Captain

The XC captains role is to help with leading the weekly club rides around Loughborough while also organising weekend and day trips away throughout the year. In addition the XC captain must put together a suitable team to compete at the BUCS XC championship and arrange transport/accommodation for it.

Contact Phill Davies for more information about this role

Road Captain

. Organising Road Rides – Rota of Leaders, Meeting points, ensuring safety etc

. Organising trips

. Handling race entries

. Attend meetings + give feedback on road side of club

. Possible organisation of campus Crit Race

Publicity Officer

My role as Publicity Sec involves keeping the website up to date, making sure it is backed up and dealing with any problems that occur e.g when the website gets hacked!

To take on this role you have to be organised and make sure the members in the club are aware of events, meetings and socials. Recently i have organised radio interviews and articles to promote the clubs events in Loughborough’s label and WOW magazines. The publicity Sec role can over lap with other roles within the committee and you can find yourself booking venues and helping with trips!

Treasurer

Social Secretary

The job of the social sec is to organise a number of socials thought the academic year. These can be non- drinking socials or nights out in the union. We just need some one who loves organising social events, and wants to bring the club together.

Kit Secretary

Women’s Captain

The women’s captains job is to keep the women’s side of the club active, organise socials and rides together.

Matt Kingsland has kindly put some information on the clubs facebook page, we now have some extra details for you.

The annual inter club event has been been arranged for this weekend. The event is more of a social event, and is a pretty good laugh!

The plan is: -

Thursday 23rd Feb Canoe Pool – Location Swimming Pool – Start at 6.30 pm

All you need to bring with you is general swimming kit, the pool is pretty cold so you may want to bring a t-shirt too. All the equipment is provided and the event is free.

Friday 24th Climbing Notts or derby

The plan is to go up to the bouldering wall at Nottingham for around 6.30 pm, although the climbing club need to confirm this! It will cost about £7 – i.e pretty damn cheap.

Saturday 25th Cycling at Cannock – 9.30 start at cannock. http://www.lsu-cycling.co.uk/forum#/discussion/245/climbers-v-bikers-v-canoeists/p1Petrol can be claimed back of the club for this event.

Everyone is welcome weather you attend one of the events or all of them and NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. For those of you who don’t know what this is its a competition to find out the most well rounded club/club member. The canoeing happens in the university pool and tends to be a race up and down the pool while doing some skills like turning on the spot. For The climbing we go to a bouldering wall in derby or Notts its normally a couple of quid to hire shoes and entry. Bouldering doesn’t require harnesses and you don’t go very high so if your scared of heights this wont be a problem!

For the cycling well thats for us to decide its normally a lap of cannock red route which you can do on your campus bike roadies i’m looking at you! You get points for completing the events and at the end the person with the most wins (DUH!)

Its really good fun and i would really recommend it even if you can only make one event!

We need to arrange lift I have started a thread on the club forum at http://www.lsu-cycling.co.uk/forum#/discussion/245/climbers-v-bikers-v-canoeists/p1

Firstly from everyone on the committee happy New Year and we wish you good luck for your up and coming exams. 2012 looks to be a very exciting year for Loughborough Students Cycling Club so keep positive and get out on your bikes over the exam period!

LSCC Website

The website is in the process of being updated with this terms events which are been organised for you as we speak. If you would like to see an event take place this semester please let us know, we would welcome feedback from the 1st semester. The open meeting has given us some more ideas so you will see some day trips to Cannock and Derbyshire after you have all finished you exams.

Kit has Arrived

The kit everyone ordered last semester (HighFive, Race kit, and Social Kit) has all arrived. The amount of kit that has been delivered is obscene, so we cannot bring it to a seminar, you will have to go to the kit sec’s house to pick the clothing up (This will be emailed to you).

HighFive have kindly sponsored the club, everyone was due to receive a bottle packed with HighFive products, some people have not picked theirs up, so again you can pick yours up with the kit.

Campus Criterium

The club is promoting the campus criterium on Saturday 26th May. This is a fantastic opportunity to see racing on closed roads around the university campus. Please check out www.lsu-cycling.co.uk/criterium for further details and follow the race on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Loughborough-University-Campus-Criterium/284081724968039. This year there is also going to be a BUCS race… entry details are on the event website.

Club Track Bikes

The club track bikes were in a state of disrepair as they have not been used for at least 5 years and are about 15 years old! LSCC have moved into the 21st centenary, we have just purchased two brand new Terry Dolan track bikes. These bikes are for all LSCC members to use, please get in touch with Dave Crosbie if you would like to book one out.

Cycling Squad

In October you may have heard about a cycling performance squad, this is something that we have started. A team has been selected and have been training hard over the winter months; the riders selected are Alex Burrage, Sandy King, Mike Thelwell, Dave Nichols and Ben Wimpory. The idea of the team is try increase the performance of the club to ensure that we represent Loughborough at a similar level to other clubs at Loughborough. This means we are aiming to win the BUCS cycling championship this year, hopefully with thease guys on board we should do this. More details will be online soon.

There is loads more events to come, please keep checking the clubs website
