A Summary of who we cater for

The road section of LSCC aims to cater for all abilities of cyclist. We encourage everyone from beginners to elite racing standard riders to join as everyone will benefit. Even if you just want to come on rides as you please and get to know the area, you are welcome!  As a club we provide a friendly atmosphere, essential for those just getting into cycling along with structured training through regular rides (at varying levels), fitness sessions and other specific training to help build and improve on your cycling ability. Those of you who are already riding for teams or racing at an elite level will also benefit from our regular rides and sessions to keep up your fitness. We also offer support to all through presentations and talks from professionals on important topics such as nutrition and training which if followed will help improve your cycling.

In addition to our structured training we hold regular day trips to areas such as the peaks, weekend trips,  fun but intense roller training/racing and much more! All of which are a great way to build new friendships and give you some time away from your studies!

Equipment and Food for Rides

You are responsible for yourself whilst on rides and if a situation arises where you need tools or a spare you should have your own with you! Most importantly, your bicycle must be in a good working condition preferably recently serviced or maintained by yourself! All the tools, equipment and food listed below can be kept either on your bike, in a saddle bag or in your jersey pockets.

  • Spare Inner-tube
  • Pump
  • Tyre Levers
  • Multi Tool (w/ Chain Tool preferably)
  • Spare Cain Link – Powerlink
  • Plenty of food and water (dependant on length of ride)
  • Money + Mobile Phone (Emergency / Bike beyond roadside repair / Café Stop – if you’re lucky)
  • Communication is essential! If there are any problems such as a puncture or pace, it is important the ride leader/ helpers are informed so action can be taken for example so a suitable stopping area can be found and help can be given to those in need. If you run out of food or water don’t keep quiet ask about and someone will help!
  • Lights are essential in winter as it gets dark quite early. This is a legal requirement by law and by the university when cycling on campus or you may receive a fine! (Surely you’d rather spend that money in the union)
  • In Winter and all Wet Weather conditions it is compulsory for MUDGUARDS! Not only to keep yourself clean and dry but it stops everyone behind you getting a face full of mud/water (see picture) This will make riding in the rain much more enjoyable for all and there are no excuses as our local shop Pedal Power sell mudguards for all bikes even those without eyelets at a discounted price for LSCC members
