The Club

A message from the Loughborough Students Cycling Club Committee:

“Welcome to the LSCC website, the website of the most successful students cycling club in the UK!  Here you will find all the information you need to get involved with the club from how to join to  getting out riding  and everything in between.  We cater for everyone, whether there is nothing you love more than killing your competitor on a steep climb in a race or just going out for a quick thrash on a Wednesday afternoon club run, to riding down near vertical cliffs to doing 100 mile rides at the weekend, we do it all.

We have riders of all sorts of abilities from national riders to bog standard plodders like me so you should be able to find someone to ride with and talk to.  We cater for Road, XC and Downhill riders although if you think you can get us into some BMX, Cylocross or Track, then you are more than welcome as well.  We run two club runs a week, one on Wednesday afternoons and one on Saturday mornings for each discipline (this varies for Downhill due to Loughborough’s lack of steep  hills) although if you want to do more there is always someone who is up for a ride.  This can be organised through our lively forum where there is always plenty of information on rides as well as anything from races to how to mend your bike to bits and pieces people are trying to sell.

We have a good social scene too and this year the committee is trying to organise trips to Manchester to watch the track cycling and some weekends away to ride as well as the standard Hey Ewe nights which are always a good laugh (although perhaps not as funny as the photo’s that appear on Facebook the next morning!).  As well as the trips we tend to travel to races on weekends and always have a cracking time at these too.

If racing is your bag then there is plenty to do.  If the road is where you are at then there a lots of local road races as well as TT’s.  If mud is your game we travel down south to take part in the Gorrick XC series in the autumn and spring and some riders also ride in the National Points Series (lovingly referred to as the NPS!) in the summer.  As well as this some riders take part in 6hr, 12hr and 24hr enduro events during the summer too.  Then there are the various British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) events to do.  So, as you can see, there is plenty going on!

As a member you will get access to discounts from leading brands and shops like Wiggle and High5, subsidised trips, a wealth off knowledge from senior club members, access to different training facilities and equipment and hopefully you will meet some great people too.

All in all we just want people who love cycling to be out on their bikes whilst they are at university and enjoying it as much as possible, because that is what it is all about isn’t it?  So if you want to race or just to try and improve and meet some new people with a common interest give us a look

See you out on your bike in the autumn,

Ed Dennett
