Introduction:

XC Orienteering is a series of 6 events throughout the academic year that follow a format whereby everyone is given a list of locations each allocated with a different amount of points from 1 to 5, everyone must then naivgate their way around as many of these points to gain the maximum points as possible before the allotted time is up.

The purpose of these is to help everyone gain a better knowledge of where places are in relation to the maps and also add a  bit of competition into the mix. There will be prizes at each round as well as series points going towards the overall winner.

Rules:

  1. All riders must return by the end time stated at the start to be part of the final results.
  2. Points are only awarded to correct answers for each location visited, wrong answers are not counted.
  3. All riders must carry a mobile phone in case they get into difficulty
  4. Please bring suitable clothing and food/drink for the ride as well as spare tube/pump etc.
  5. You are responsible for your own and the safety of others at all times.
  6. Please respect the rules of the road and other people out and about.
  7. You must always wear a helmet.

Format:

Points are awarded for a correct answer to the question relevant to the location on the map, the amount of points on offer are given next to the coordinates of the point on the information sheet handed out at the start of each event. The points allocated are as follows:

5 Points

3 Points

1 Point

All riders must bring their own maps, the OS sheets relevant are given below and the points to be reached will be supplied on a sheet of paper at the start of the event in typical format such as SK 234 789 so ensure you are familiar with this system on the maps prior to taking part. The winner will be the rider who gains the greatest number of points and returns to the start point before the end time listed above, late riders will be penalised a point per minute they are over the time.
